With the nagging pain that this condition brings to every patients, the agony, thinking that you might have to live with it for the rest of your life is almost as painfully as the illness itself.

However, the idea of braces and surgery doesn’t sit well with you. That’s the reason why you’re constantly searching for an alternative treatment that will lessen, if not rid the discomfort altogether and allow you to continue doing your daily activities without being restricted by scoliosis.

And then there’s the hype about chiropractic care claiming that it’s a non-evasive and drug-free procedure that can relieve the pain and eventually deal with the curvature of your spine. So you ask yourself, is this real? Are chiropractors in Singapore really the solution to my problem?
Before jumping into anything, the first thing you have to do is understand is your specific condition, because no one ailment is the same. Therefore, different condition requires different treatment.

Having said that, did you know that most scoliosis is classified as “Idiopathic Scoliosis” meaning the cause of the scoliosis is unidentified? While the other classification is called “Congenital Scoliosis” or the congenital anomalies of the vertebrae or ribs that caused the scoliosis.
Given that, there are three types of scoliosis under the Idiopathic Scoliosis which are:

Infantile Idiopathic Scoliosis
This is a type of scoliosis that is diagnosed in a child between birth and 3 years old.

Juvenile Idiopathic Scoliosis
This one develops from age 3 through 10. This category makes up the 10% to 15% of all idiopathic scoliosis patients.

Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis
This the most common type of idiopathic scoliosis which usually starts between ages of 10 and skeletal maturity.

Now, the question is, how do you know which type are you?
Simple, you go and consult your primary health care provider or better yet, go to a spine specialist like a chiropractor. Expect to be interviewed and asked for your medical history, then the specialist will prepare you for a thorough examination. Once you’ve been diagnosed, the chiropractor will recommend treatments, medications or procedures that he see fit to your specific condition.

So to answer your question if a chiropractor can help you with your scoliosis, it’s both a yes and a no. Yes because chiropractic care specializes on musculoskeletal disorders, so their ways are meant for conditions like scoliosis. But no if you assume that it can magically treat scoliosis like you never even had it.

Remember that different people responds differently to treatments, what worked for other might not work for you. Just understand that any kind of treatment will take time before you see the results, don’t lose hope just because nothing changed after one session.
